We're excited to share with you our brand new visual explainer video that breaks down how opportunity is structured in the United States, its relationship to race and class, and how to level the playing field so everyone has a fair shot at success. The video, which is a companion to the new book on Structural Racism recently published by OBI Research Director Stephen Menendian, shows how the pathways we encounter in life aren't only shaped by personal choices, but also by structural forces. Stephen, who narrates the video, explains what he means by opportunity, why it's so unevenly distributed, and illustrates an easy-to-grasp example of how policies can be changed to close opportunity disparities, rather than exacerbate them. Check out this must watch video here. And read this fantastic article and Q&A with Stephen published on Berkeley News.

To advance housing justice for all, we need solutions at scale. Scaling just solutions that match what our communities want and need is about more than building more affordable housing units. It requires building a culture and system that prioritizes people over profit, honors community self-determination, and fosters shared responsibility to each other and the earth. Join us for this August 13 virtual panel discussion which builds on the frameworks and recommendations presented in Living into the Future: Scaling Community Owned Housing in California. We pick up one of the questions we left off with: How can the housing field transform these dynamics, bridge across silos, and create a more cohesive housing ecosystem, in order to live into a better future of belonging for all?
