Transformative Research Toolkit |
We are delighted to share with you our brand new toolkit designed for organizers to support change strategies using processes that center local community knowledge. |
Transformative research refers to a wide range of processes where people center their lived experience and visions for social transformation, lead a process that systematically builds on this knowledge through investigation and learning rooted in their own ways of knowing, and take action to influence public narratives, policies, and power dynamics. |
The Transformative Research Toolkit is available to read and download online, but for a limited time we are offering to mail beautiful hard copies to people who will put it to good use (request a hard copy here).
The toolkit is intended for cultural workers, organizers, and community leaders working to transform public policy and systems, build power, and shift public narratives. |
We created this toolkit over the last several years as a slow-cook process that boils down our experiences working with partner organizations, and hope you’ll find it useful in your organizing efforts. Check out the toolkit here.

Watch last week's book talk, Before Gentrification
Last week we hosted Tanya Golash-Boza, Director of the UCDC center and UC Merced sociologist, to present on her new book, Before Gentrification: The Creation of DC's Racial Wealth Gap. The book explores how redlining, incarceration, anti-blackness, and gentrification have resulted in DC becoming an extremely unequal city. Her talk was followed by a discussion with Carolina Reid, Professor of City & Regional Planning; and Felix Owusu, a postdoctoral scholar, both from UC Berkeley. Get a recording and transcript of the talk here.

Event: Movement for a Just World
How do we build movements to defeat mass incarceration and the climate crisis? At the community level, how do we make sense of both of these crises and advance solutions that don't compromise one for the other? What are narratives that can inspire transformation and build alliances across different organizations and issues? We have been focused on these questions over the last few years and are ready to share some insights and tools. Join us next week, on March 27 at 10am PT as we share a beautiful animated video, a curriculum for facilitating workshops and planning sessions related to transformative narratives and collective visioning.
