Dear {{FirstName or 'friend'}},
I’m thrilled to share with you our full agenda for the Othering & Belonging Conference happening in just a few short weeks. With just a few pieces left to finalize, here’s a sample of the rich programming you can expect at O&B24. -
On Thursday, April 25, we’ll hear from iconic geographer Ruth Wilson Gilmore, disability justice leader Imani Barbarin, and acclaimed belonging-builder Roberto Bedoya; see the premiere of the Belonging Resident Company, and experience the “profoundly spiritual and dance-inducing ensemble” that is Orchestra Gold.
-
Friday will feature a keynote talk with OBI Director john a. powell and celebrated journalist Maria Hinojosa on our conference theme of belonging without othering; talks from dynamic authors and movement leaders such as Maurice Mitchell, Scott Shigeoka, and Astra Taylor; a set of eight concurrent breakout sessions with dozens of national leaders; and an innovative conversation on ideas to build economic systems based in belonging, repair, and interdependence with leaders like Nwamaka Agbo, Jovan Scott Lewis and Nick Tilsen.

Saturday, our closing day, will feature urgent conversations on meeting our current global moment including: the role of collective memory and trauma in how we move forward, with Palestinian historian Sherene Seikaly, renowned writer Naomi Klein, and Pulitzer-prize winning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen; a conversation on building Long Bridges across difference in order to preserve our common humanity and democratic norms; a dynamic closing session with leading global peacebuilders like Shamil Idriss and Sanam Naraghi Anderlini on what it would take, in a time of increased war, hyper-fragmentation, and rising authoritarianism, to embrace belonging as a radical new proposition to save ourselves, each other, and our planet. Saturday will also feature a closing with renowned Bay Area artists Kev Choice and Destiny Muhammed.
If you are not able to attend in-person we are also offering a free livestream of all mainstage sessions, which will include live captioning (translatable to Spanish) and a moderated live chat to interact with folks tuning in from all over the globe. Register for our livestream here to receive your access link. We only have about 300 tickets left for our in-person conference and they are selling quickly, so we hope you will register soon!
We do have a limited number of free tickets available for people who can volunteer to help us out with a variety of conference-related tasks, including registration, way-showing, and attendee support. Please see this link for details and to apply.
