Exclusionary Zoning and Community Resources in Greater LA
Today we released new research showing that cities in the greater Los Angeles region with lower single-family zoning spend far more per capita on policing than cities with high levels of single-family zoning, which depletes their municipal resources so they can't be used on services that promote better life outcomes. ICYMI: Watch a replay of our Cultures of Care launch event
Last week we celebrated the launch of our Cultures of Care project with a fantastic panel of care practitioners who talked about what care means to them, and why it matters more than ever today. This project was initiated in the fall of 2020 amid the pandemic, deepening economic inequality, and popular uprisings as a way to highlight some of the beautiful interventions in response to the multiple crises our world was facing. Cultures of Care celebrates those practices and the people behind them.
We hope you'll learn more about this project by visiting its new website created to teach about and honor those practices. And in case you missed it, check out a recording of the launch event here. Lastly, we would be grateful if you could help us grow this work and celebrate your own Cultures of Care through social media. Tag us on Instagram @otheringandbelonging with your posts, and use the hashtag #culturesofcare.
