Have you ever wondered if Belonging is a destination, a practice, or both? Or how do we cultivate the skills, flexibility, and muscle to make belonging real and not just a fairytale? Have you attended past OBI events in the past and want to dig in a little deeper with us?
Join us for Belonging: A Weekly Practice hosted by OBI Strategic Partner Sarah Crowell, Belonging Coordinator Ashley Gallegos, and Evan Bissell. In this 60-minute drop-in, we'll mix reflection, movement, and critical inquiry to stretch our own understandings and applications of belonging.
This is a space for discussion, co-creation, and growth, and we are excited to see you all there! With love, Erica and Christian |

| Jason Reynolds | Cultures of Care - Creating Space (for young people) Just bring young people in the room, that's all. Every single place that is doing anything about around care, specifically in this context care for young people, needs to have young people in a room. Ask them what they need. It's really weird that we make all these decisions without asking them any questions. Ask them what they need.
And the reason why we don't ask them is because it's because we don't respect them. We don't respect their opinions, or their ability to articulate what it is that they need, which means that we don't actually see them as whole human beings. And then we create structures that are supposed to edify and fortify them. But how could you do so if you don't exactly know the subject in which you're building a support system around? It's foolishness.

Calling the Elders: A Queer and Trans Writing Workshop
Using a model of poetry workshops, Calling the Elders created opportunities for UC Berkeley’s QT students, faculty, and staff to use creative writing to build community, articulate needs, and collaboratively build an inclusive and ambitious vision of support. The two hour weekly writing workshops were led by OBI Campus Bridging Project Coordinator.Julia McKeown, hosted at the Arts Research Center’s space in Dwinelle Annex, and centered around poems and prompts offered by queer and trans poets or inspired by work they have put out into the world. The writing prompts were posted after each meeting for those who might not have been able to attend.
