Podcast: In Search of Belonging
In this new, must-hear interview on the podcast "Grief is a Sneaky Bitch," OBI Director john a. powell offers some wisdom about the shared human experiences of loss caused not just by death, but by our unwillingness to see ourselves in one another. He invites us to discover how the wisdom we gain from having lost might be exactly what we need to discover our way back to each other. He says:

Come hear Georgetown Law Professor Sheryll Cashin present her new book, White Space, Black ‘Hood: Opportunity Hoarding and Segregation in the Age of Inequality, followed by a conversation with OBI Director john a. powell, moderated by OBI Assistant Director Stephen Menendian.
White Space, Black Hood shows how government created “ghettos” and affluent white space and entrenched a system of American residential caste that is the linchpin of US inequality—and issues a call for abolition.

A Poem In Three Parts on Bridging
We've just released a three-part poem on bridging and belonging by poet Michelle "Mush" Lee who wrote and performed them for our 2021 Othering & Belonging Conference last month. We premiered this poem and accompanying visuals—featuring an array of dancers, aerialists, and performers of all kinds—in three digital shorts directed by filmmaker Yoram Savion, with creative direction from conference emcee Sarah Crowell. Blog: The Role of Religion in Bridging Work
We recently published a short piece from Senior Fellow Eboo Patel on the role of religion in bridging work, which draws from one of the panels featured at last month's Othering & Belonging conference. In it, he writes:
"Those of us who are building the bridging field speak often of identity, typically race, gender, sexuality and politics. After all, bridging is often necessary because of the differences, tensions and conflicts between the various groups defined by the above identities. It is time to include religion at the same level."

In the second episode of the series, we hear from Gerald Lenoir and Nunu Kidane about their work on bridging African American and African immigrant communities through dialogues. Gerald and Nunu share their experience facilitating Diaspora Dialogues, which are intentional conversations used to bridge African American and immigrant communities.
