A new opinion piece entitled, "Obama's Plan to Aid Black Men and Boys Will be a Boon to Other Groups," written by john powell and Maya Rockeymoore, CEO of the Center for Global Policy Solutions, addresses how a strategy of targeted universalism is needed to ensure that all groups reach their fullest potential. Black and Brown and Redlined All Over
Despite the speculator-fueled rise in home prices, the tide of "recovery" has not risen all boats. After decades of redlining and predatory lending, many black and brown families' homes are still underwater. As cities try solutions such as eminent domain to refinance underwater mortgages, the banking and lending industries lobby to thwart these efforts. Read john powell's piece on TalkPoverty.org.

Communities of Color Still Suffering from Housing Crisis
Haas Institute Research Assistant Stephanie Llanes explores how the housing crisis and predatory targeting of black and brown families directly impacted her family. Stephanie, a first-generation college student, is a JD candidate at the UC Berkeley Boalt School of Law and is a summer legal intern at the ACLU in Seattle. Read Stephanie's article here.
