Join us for a year of events marking the 400th anniversary of the beginning of slavery in the US which will look at slavery's profound impacts on all areas of American society. Today we launched a new website dedicated to the "400 Years of Resistance to Slavery and Oppression" initiative at UC Berkeley being spearheaded by Denise Herd, assistant director of the Haas Institute, and many campus partners. The new site has information on all the upcoming events associated with this initiative, whose purpose is to commemorate the anniversary of the beginning of slavery, acknowledge the struggles of African Americans to gain freedom, celebrate their many achievements, and understand the lasting impacts of slavery.
